Abstract

The paper presents a comparative analysis of the characteristic aspects of two current industrial revolutions – Industry 4.0 and Industry 5.0. First, the emergence and development of the aforementioned industrial revolutions are described, with a focus on their characteristic aspects, advantages and disadvantages, and then the concept of the transition from Industry 4.0 to Industry 5.0 is presented, highlighting the arguments why the transition is important, as well as examining the opportunities and challenges of implementing Industry 5.0. If Industry 5.0 is implemented at full capacity, it will enable better automation of production processes, offering real-time data, but at the same time will allow people to work together with machines to improve processes and provide personalization for customers. Regardless of the degree of adoption of the two current industrial revolutions, the next industrial revolution should be fueled by both information technology and concern for environmental sustainability.
