There are two kinds of knowledge to be acquired, as the knowers of Brahman declare: the higher (para) and the lower (apara). The lower includes the Rigveda, Yajurveda, Samaveda, Atharvaveda, phonetics, rituals, grammar, etymology, meter, and astronomy. The higher is that by which the Imperishable (Akshara) is realized.
— Mundaka Upanishad, 1.1.4-5

Our Mission

Poorvam Open Research Engine or PORE, hosted at pore.poorvam.com, is dedicated to advancing academic research by providing a robust, curated platform for accessing scholarly articles, with a particular focus on Arts and Humanities and South Asian Studies. Inspired by the Upanishadic pursuit of higher knowledge, our mission is to empower researchers, students, and educators with seamless access to high-quality, peer-reviewed content in fields such as Archeology, Classics, History, Language and Linguistics, Literature and Literary Theory, Philosophy, Religious Studies, and Visual Arts and Performing Arts, while aiming to become a leading database for South Asian Studies.

Originally built on external APIs such as Crossref and CORE, our platform has evolved to prioritize a meticulously curated local database. This transition ensures greater reliability, faster access, and enriched metadata, tailored to the needs of the academic community, especially those engaged in Arts and Humanities and South Asian research.

Our Platform

PORE offers a comprehensive repository of journal articles, sourced from our locally maintained database, with a strong emphasis on Arts and Humanities disciplines, including Archeology, Arts and Humanities (miscellaneous), Classics, Conservation, General Arts and Humanities, History, History and Philosophy of Science, Language and Linguistics, Literature and Literary Theory, Museology, Music, Philosophy, Religious Studies, and Visual Arts and Performing Arts. By moving beyond sole reliance on external APIs, we have enhanced our platform with detailed journal metadata, including ISSN, publisher information, and coverage years, alongside article-level data such as DOIs, abstracts, and author details.

  • Curated Database: Access a growing collection of articles from leading journals, enriched with metadata, particularly in Arts and Humanities and South Asian Studies.
  • Advanced Search: Filter articles by publication, type, date range, or keywords for precise results.
  • User-Friendly Interface: A clean, responsive design ensures accessibility on all devices.
  • Favorite Articles: Registered users can save articles for future reference, enhancing research efficiency.
  • Community-Driven: We collaborate with researchers to expand our database and improve functionality.

Our Team

Our platform is developed and maintained by a dedicated team of scholars, technologists, and librarians committed to open access and academic excellence. Drawing on expertise in computer science, library science, and domain-specific research, we strive to make scholarly knowledge universally accessible.
