Abstract

Seyyid Şerif Cürcânis Concise Methodology of Hadith Research – Textual Studies – Translation This study examines Seyyid Sharif Jurjanis Concide in Hadith Methodology within the political and intellectual context of the period in which the author lived, focusing on the works sources, its attribution to Jurjani, and its place in the literature of hadith methodology. Jurjani lived during a time of political fragmentation following the Ilkhanids, when powers such as the Mamluks, the Muzaffarids, and the Timurid state were influential. Under the patronage of Timur, Jurjani resided in major centers of learning, particularly Samarkand. This political stability and patronage played a significant role in the dissemination of his scholarly reputation. The study emphasizes that the century in which Jurjani lived was marked by intense scholarly activity across various Islamic sciences, including theology (kalām), logic, jurisprudence (fiqh), hadith, and related disciplines. Such an intellectual environment made possible the emergence of a versatile scholar like Jurjani. The Mukhtasar was widely taught, especially in the Indian subcontinent, and throughout history its title, attribution, and sources have been the subject of scholarly debate. In this context, the work is analyzed comparatively with major contributions to hadith methodology by figures such as al- Nawawī, Ibn Ḥajar, and al-Ṭībī. Ultimately, the study aims to demonstrate the distinctive position of Jurjanis Mukhtasar within the hadith methodology tradition. At the end of the work, the original Arabic text of the Mukhtasar/Concide and its original Turkish translation are included.
