Abstract
With the continuous advancement of China's digital China construction and artificial intelligence innovation development strategy during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the widespread application of generative artificial intelligence in the field of visual content production is profoundly influencing the expression methods and narrative structures of traditional cultural arts. As a highly matured and highly stylized genre within China's opera system, Cantonese opera's visual forms—encompassing character design, costume patterns, color schemes, and stage imagery—have long carried stable cultural semantics and aesthetic norms. After the intervention of generative artificial intelligence in visual creation, Cantonese opera visuals are no longer primarily reliant on experiential inheritance and manual reproduction, but are gradually entering a digital narrative environment supported by data learning and model inference. This paper, from the perspectives of art studies and digital humanities, treats Cantonese opera visual symbols as narrative elements rather than mere pictorial objects. Building on an analysis of their traditional visual narrative logic, it examines the transformations in the organization, expression, and cultural constraints of Cantonese opera visual narratives following the integration of generative artificial intelligence. The study further explores potential mechanisms for maintaining the visual cultural consistency and aesthetic stability of Cantonese opera under digital generation conditions. It argues that generative AI does not replace the visual traditions of Cantonese opera but serves as a crucial medium for reinterpreting and reconstructing its visual narrative logic, thereby providing new theoretical space for the contemporary expression and intelligent dissemination of Cantonese opera culture in a digital context.
