Abstract

The scientific article provides information on the anatomical parameters of some bones of the skeleton of saigas and sheep in a comparative aspect. In Kazakhstan, the fight against poachers has been intensified, legislation against the illegal trade in saiga antlers has become stricter, and a moratorium on trapping saigas has been in effect, which has allowed the population to recover fairly quickly. The increase in the number of saiga antelopes was facilitated by a number of favorable conditions (good grass on natural pastures, the ability to freely migrate, regulation of the number of wolves, etc.). Comprehensive measures taken in the Republic of Kazakhstan have led to an increase in the number of saigas to 3.2 million. number of individuals in 2025 compared to 21 thousand in 2003. Saiga antelopes eat crops, trample pasture and hay fields, restrict access to water bodies for domestic animals, which has led to the withdrawal of excess livestock. Carcasses of captured saiga animals after processing at meat processing plants are sold directly to the public, and some of the products enter the markets. Saiga carcasses can be a source of infectious and parasitic diseases that are dangerous for both farm animals and the general population. In order to prevent the falsification of saiga carcasses, it is very important to know the anatomical features of the animal's skeletal bones during forensic and veterinary examinations. However, there is a lack of research on this topic. The presented photographs were taken by the author personally and reflect the topographical and morphological characteristics of the Ural saiga population.
