Abstract

The article presents the results of the diagnostic stage of a study aimed at examining the level of tolerance among modern Kazakhstani students. Within the framework of the research, psychological and pedagogical diagnostic methods were applied, including a survey to identify the level of students’ tolerance, the questionnaire “My Choice,” as well as the express questionnaire “Tolerance Index” developed by G. Soldatova and her colleagues. The obtained data made it possible to determine the general state and specific features of the manifestation of tolerance in the student environment, as well as to identify characteristic trends in students’ attitudes toward representatives of various social and cultural groups. According to the results of the study, the average value of the overall tolerance index of the respondents was 88 points, which corresponds to a medium level (61–99 points). This indicates a combination of tolerant and intolerant attitudes among students, which may manifest depending on specific social situations. Based on the obtained results, recommendations for the development of students’ tolerance in the educational environment of the university were proposed.
