Abstract

<jats:p>This book is organised into eight chapters. Chapter 1, the introductory chapter, provides the background of the study reported in this volume. It also presents the aim and research questions guiding the book, the context of the study, and the significance of the book. Chapter 2 discusses issues concerning academic knowledge production and dissemination, focusing on the role of universities and the global trend toward world-class universities. It also examines the inequalities in knowledge production, highlighting the North-South knowledge divide and the dominance of English and Western academic culture in research and publication. Chapter 3 focuses on academics’ research conceptions and research engagement practices. It examines how research is perceived by academics and what influences their research engagement and productivity. This chapter also explores the current state of knowledge on academics’ research engagement to situate the book in the existing literature. It also discusses the conceptual framework developed to guide the research presented in the book. Chapter 4 discusses the research methodology that guides the empirical chapters of the book. It explains the philosophy underpinning the research, the research design, sampling strategies, and methods and procedures for data collection and analysis. Ethical considerations, strategies to enhance the credibility and trustworthiness of the study, and the role of the researcher are also discussed in this chapter. Chapters 5, 6, and 7 present the findings of the study corresponding to the three research questions. Specifically, Chapter 5 presents the findings concerning Cambodian academics’ research perceptions. Chapter 6 discusses Cambodian academics’ research engagement practices, while Chapter 7 examines the problems and prospects for Cambodian academics’ research engagement. Chapter 8, the concluding chapter of the book, provides a summary of the key findings and highlights the contribution of the book. It also discusses the implications of the study for policy and practice, particularly for enhancing research engagement of Cambodian academics. The chapter also highlights the study’s limitations and provides suggestions for further research on the topic.</jats:p>
