Abstract

Recently, the Republic of Armenia has faced numerous complex problems related to the reforms being implemented in the Armed Forces, the efficient and rapid solution of which presumes the use of modern scientific approaches, up-to-the-minute technology (including humanitarian one), which can contribute to qualitative changes in the RA Armed Forces. The creation of a mechanism for conducting regular military sociological research (MSR) is reviewed as one of the important means of scientific support for reforms. As evidence of the MSR employment efficiency, the experience of a number of world developed countries (Russia, the USA, etc.) is briefly reviewed, showing how, in difficult military-political conditions, owing to the MSR, they successfully solved a number of complex problems to increase the troops combat readiness and combat effectiveness, and ensure their combat and psychological stability. Broadly speaking, the article discusses the role of the MSR in identifying the causes of problems existing in the Armed Forces system, in predicting possible scenarios for the development as well as social consequences of these problems. Also, based on the carried out MSR, it dwells on the role of the MSR in the process of developing various efficacious proposals and recommendations, targeted at solving the problems under study and improving the entire defense system as a whole for the country’s top military-political leadership and for commanders and heads at various levels. As a result of the analysis, the following general conclusion was drawn: to support the efficient and scientifically based implementation of modern reforms of the RA Armed Forces, there is more than a need to create an effective mechanism for the regular conduct of the MSR in the RA Armed Forces system. As such a mechanism, it is proposed to create a specialized military sociological unit in the system of the RA Ministry of Defense. Moreover, it is desirable that it have a broad interdisciplinary orientation (including military-psychological, military-political, etc).
