Abstract

<jats:p>The article presents the monastic community of Sliven’s Mountain that existed in the highlands around the city of Sliven. Historic sources, archaeological excavations and architectural observations reveal that the monasteries were built during the 13th – 14th centuries, survived the Ottoman conquest of the Balkans at the end of the 14th and the beginning of the 15th century, and declined at the end of the 16th century. Exact information about the time and reasons for the closure of the monasteries is missing.</jats:p>
