Abstract

Although they are semi-domesticated animals, buffaloes have, over time, represented a real support for subsistence where they were raised. In Romania, the largest herds are found in the Transylvanian area. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of endoparasitism in buffaloes from northern Sibiu County. In this regard, 32 buffaloes of different ages from four localities were coproscopically examined, using flotation and sedimentation methods: Romanești, Păucea, Blăjel and Bazna. Thus, several categories of parasites (protozoa, trematodes, cestodes and nematodes) were identified, as follows: Balantidium spp. (12.5%), Eimeria spp. (15.62%), Paramphistomum/Fasciola (12.5%), Moniezia spp. (3.12%), digestive strongyles (3.12%), and Gongylonema spp. (3.12%), respectively. Most samples (50%) were negative.
