Abstract
Strategic development is a key component of the competitiveness and resilience of commercial banks. Financial institutions, and particularly the banking sector, are continuously confronted with a range of challenges and obstacles stemming from changes in regulatory environments, the advancement of information technologies, digitalization issues, and the increasing diversity of customer expectations. These factors, growing more pronounced by the day, underscore the rising importance of improving the effectiveness and efficiency of strategic development processes. This study presents the main financial and non-financial indicators used to evaluate the strategic development of commercial banks in the Republic of Armenia and provides a consolidated analysis of current trends. In doing so, the study goes beyond metrics of profitability and efficiency, addressing interrelated areas such as corporate governance, the level of digitalization, and the applicability of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles. For a more effective analysis, comparisons have been made using publicly available data on existing commercial banks.
