Abstract
Recent advancements in chemical sciences have significantly transformed the way molecular design, synthesis, and application-driven research are approached across diverse scientific domains. The integration of nanotechnology, coordination chemistry, materials science, and bioinorganic chemistry has opened new avenues for developing functional materials and biologically active compounds with enhanced performance and specificity. In this context, the present volume, Frontiers in Chemical Sciences: Design, Synthesis and Applications, aims to provide a comprehensive platform to showcase emerging trends and interdisciplinary developments in modern chemical research. This edited book brings together a collection of scholarly contributions that span a wide spectrum of chemical sciences. The chapters encompass key areas such as nanotechnology in drug design, synthesis and biological evaluation of transition metal complexes, phytochemical and green synthesis approaches, and advanced materials including carbon nanostructures and semiconductor nanoparticles. The volume also highlights microwave-assisted synthesis, spectroscopic characterization, and theoretical investigations, reflecting the integration of experimental and computational methodologies in contemporary research. Several chapters focus on the design and synthesis of metal-based complexes with potential biological applications, emphasizing structure–activity relationships and the role of coordination chemistry in medicinal chemistry. In addition, green and sustainable approaches such as plant-mediated nanoparticle synthesis are explored, demonstrating environmentally benign strategies for developing functional nanomaterials with antimicrobial and pharmacological properties. The book further includes discussions on advanced materials such as single-, double-, and multi-walled carbon nanostructures, as well as fluorescent organic systems, underlining their significance in optoelectronic and biomedical applications. Comparative studies on natural products and edible oils also provide insights into their chemical composition and potential health benefits, thereby extending the scope of the volume to applied and industrial chemistry. Each chapter is designed to present fundamental concepts alongside recent developments, offering a balanced perspective that bridges theoretical understanding with practical applications. The contributions collectively emphasize the importance of innovative design strategies, advanced characterization techniques, and application-oriented research in addressing current scientific and technological challenges. This volume is intended to serve as a valuable resource for researchers, academicians, and industry professionals in the fields of chemistry, materials science, and nanotechnology. It is our hope that this book will stimulate further research, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and contribute to the advancement of chemical sciences for societal benefit.
