Abstract

The legal framework governing the freedom of those wishing to die to end their own lives has become the subject of heated debate following the ruling by the Federal Constitutional Court on the right to self-determined death. This paper comprehensively examines the freedom of those wishing to die to end their own lives from a fundamental rights perspective, elaborates on the constitutional framework for legislative action in the context of the right to one's own death, and, on this basis, highlights its consequences for regulations and regulatory options below the constitutional level.
