Deutsche Konsulargerichtsbarkeit im Osmanischen Reich (1761–1917)

<p>The book deals with the extraterritorial jurisdiction granted to German diplomats in the late 18th and 19th centuries, using the Ottoman Empire as an example. Here, as well as in China and Japan, foreign diplomats acted as full civil and criminal judges in matters involving foreigners. The study presents the foundations under international and procedural law as well as the everyday legal practice of consuls based on previously unseen archival sources.</p>
