Abstract

Simone Trägner employs qualitative interviews and grounded theory to examine how young Muslim adults in Germany engage with Islamic norms. Her findings reveal the strategies employed to individually negotiate the relevance of these norms and integrate them into one's life. Social discourses about Muslims and Islam in Germany have a decisive influence on these negotiation processes. This study provides valuable insights into the subjective interpretation of Islamic norms in the context of modern, secular, and pluralistic societies. At the same time, the findings are highly relevant to the further development of Islamic legal thinking within a democratic and religiously diverse society.
