Abstract
<p>Conspiracist ideologies threaten democratic societies in plain sight. This comprehensive study is the first to analyse the specific developments and effects of conspiracist ideologies in democracies. Stefan Christoph demonstrates that modern conspiracist ideologies are not merely individual attitudes but anti-democratic institutions. They deliberately exploit democratic uncertainties. This study combines an analysis of the history of ideas with socio-psychological findings and develops a theoretical framework for the understanding of conspiracism.
