Abstract
<p>Sports science is a young academic discipline. Its foundations were laid in the 1920s, when institutes of physical education were established at German universities. This volume offers differentiated analyses by renowned experts of selected examples of this exciting genesis of a scientific discipline. The starting points are the founding of the German University for Physical Education in Berlin in 1920 and the Prussian decrees on university reform, which led to the establishment of university institutes for physical education. Their task was to organise university sport and to train teachers for gymnastics and physical education in schools. With contributions by Berno Bahro | Christian Becker | Daphné Bolz | Jürgen Court | Noyan Dinçkal | Annette R.
