Abstract

<p>This volume provides a broad picture of multilingualism and language policy in Germany's border regions, focusing on French, Dutch, Danish, Polish, and Czech. How are these languages represented in society, how are they promoted, what are the challenges and successes? By way of comparison, the articles in this volume also deal with the role of German in the border regions outside Germany and the position of neighbouring languages in French language policy. In addition to educational aspects, the contributions also discuss the relevance of other actors and fields of language policy, such as the labour market and the economy, the media, municipalities or associations. Steffen Höder and Philipp Krämer are linguists with a research profile in multilingualism and language contact in Northern Europe and the French-speaking world. With contributions by Ute K.
