Abstract

The wording of „great transformation“ is widespread. The theoretical foundation, however, often remain obscure. The book relies on Hegel’s philosophy of objective spirit to outline perspectives for a transformation of modern civil society towards a sustainable post-growth society. Such transformation affects all spheres of civil society, as law, morals, family life and community, economics, and the democratic state. It presupposes a) the idea of freedom, b) a deep anthropocentric environmental ethics, c) a theoretical conception of strong sustainability, and d) a discourse theory of practical reason. The book presumes to deliver a comprehensive theory of transformation in the spirit of a Hegelian critical theory and it offers a civic alternative to degrowth-conceptions.
