Abstract

This volume examines the relationship between transcendence and immanence in physical-cosmological analysis, in the context of the history of Platonism from the 3rd to the 6th century AD. In particular, the reflections on the physis developed by Plotinus, Proclus, Damascius, and Philoponus are analysed. The Jewish philosopher Philo of Alexandria and Zacharias Scholasticus, belonging to the rhetorical school of Gaza (5th-6th century AD), contribute to defining the intellectual framework useful for understanding the philosophy of nature within the Platonic tradition, based on the interpretation of the Timaeus and the Sacred Scriptures, and animated by the heated debate between Pagan and Christian Platonists in Late Antiquity.
