Abstract

[Knowledge and Faith. 75 Years of Evangelische Forschungsakademie] The relationship between knowledge and faith is not only exciting, but also characterized by tensions. Since the Enlightenment at the latest, scientific knowledge has taken its place alongside or in place of faith-based interpretations of the world and life. From a secular perspective, Christian faith is no longer seen as the basis of scientific knowledge processes, but as irrelevant or even contradictory. This also marked the founding of the Evangelische Forschungsakademie (Protestant Research Academy) in 1948, which is why its interdisciplinary work focused on combating the mutual indifference or even incompatibility of faith and knowledge. As part of an anniversary conference in January 2024, an attempt was made to define the topic as a current leitmotif for science and society.
