Abstract
Given the changes in the tourism industry and the growing importance of domestic tourism, it is important to assess the level of development of regions using various indicators. The purpose of this study is to compare the development of the Burabai, Turkestan and Mangystau regions between 2020 and 2024, taking into account their economic achievements. The article uses official statistical data and regional reports, including information on the demand for tourism services, infrastructure and the volume of services. The main indicators were the number of visitors (N), the number of accommodation units (Na) and the volume of tourism services provided (Vs). The study included a comparative analysis, calculation of growth rates and the use of economic efficiency indicators such as revenue per visitor (RPV) and economic efficiency per unit (E2). The share of each region in the total volume of tourist services, their market position and competitive advantages were also determined. The results showed that the regions are developing at different rates. In the Burabai region, the number of tourists is growing steadily, infrastructure is improving, but profitability is at an average level. Turkestan is experiencing rapid growth in demand due to its cultural and historical appeal. The Mangystau region is characterised by high economic efficiency and profitability of tourism services. These results indicate the need for a differentiated approach to investment management and planning in the areas, taking into account their specific characteristics and economic potential. The results of this study can be useful for developing tourism development strategies in the regions, optimising the distribution of investments in infrastructure, and improving the efficiency of management of state and private companies in the regions.
