Abstract

This article explores feminist optics in the history of global video art, focusing on its role as a critical tool for challenging patriarchal visual conventionalities and normative representations of femininity, the body, and subjectivity. It traces the de-velopment of feminist video practices from the 1970s up to the present through the works of key artists such as Joan Jonas, VALIE EXPORT, Chantal Akerman, Shirin Neshat, Pipilotti Rist, and Patty Chang. These artists used video not only as a visual language, but also as a means of political resistance, self-articulation, and institutional critique.
