<jats:p>By his art, Armen Gulakyan made a significant contribution to the development of Armenian drama and opera theatre. His production of the opera “Anush” is a prime example of this. Studying it reveals the renowned director’s artistic vision and stylistic approach to opera staging. While working at the Alexander Spendiaryan Opera and Ballet Theatre in Yerevan, Gulakyan prioritised the works of Armenian composers, thereby shaping the national opera repertoire. He staged “Anush” four times at different stages of his creative career: in 1935, 1939, 1950 and 1956.</jats:p>
