Abstract

The effect of 2-hydroxy-3-(2-(isobutylthio)-ethyl)-4H-pyrido[1,2-a]pyrimi din-4-one on monoamine oxidase (MAO) activity in rat brain was studied in vitro. Serotonin (5-ՕT) creatinine sulfate was used as a substrate. It was found that among the pyrimidines, pyrido[1,2-a]pyrimidines exhibit moderate antiMAO activity. It is known that the abundance of these amines plays an important role in regulating emotional states by controlling the stability of pre- and postsynaptic impulse transmission. A deficiency of amines can lead to depression, fear, anxiety, and tension. Literature data confirm that antidepressants stabilize mental states by inhibiting the enzyme monoamine oxidase.
