Abstract
The aim of this study was to assess the possible influence of baseline BMI and surgical techniques on the characteristics of the LSG procedure. A study, which was carried out at the Bariatric Surgery Department of Shengavit Medical Center, included 497 patients meeting the specified criteria for the study. The selected participants were divided into 2 groups according to the LSG method used. The first group (n = 246) included patients treated with standard LSG procedure, and the second group (n = 251) included patients who underwent modified LSG. The analysis of the obtained data revealed the presence of reliable differences in some indicators in the corresponding subgroups of the first and second clinical groups. In particular, a higher frequency of operations lasting more than 90 minutes with a standard protocol of surgery compared to a modified one, a higher frequency of intraoperative complications in patients of subgroup B (in their absence in subgroup A of both clinical groups), as well as comparatively longer periods of hospital stay. At the same time, reliable differences in the indicators of rehospitalization, relaparoscopy, conversion to another type of surgical intervention and the amount of fluid administered during the operation were not revealed.
