Abstract

This volume represents one of the most comprehensive outcomes of the long-standing academic cooperation between the Korean Criminal Law Association and Turkish scholars of criminal law. As the Theory of the Risk Society highlights, contemporary threats have become invisible, global, and predominantly man-made. These new categories of risk compel a reconsideration of criminal law not solely within the traditional framework of offense typicity, but through the lenses of foreseeability, prevention, societal security, and the delicate balance of fundamental rights. This book examines how the classic boundaries of criminal law are reshaped -and at times challenged- by the multilayered uncertainties of the risk society, offering a nuanced and interdisciplinary perspective. Prepared with the contributions of 30 Turkish and Korean scholars in both German and English, this work aims not only to deepen the production of legal knowledge but also to establish a lasting intellectual bridge between the criminal law communities of the two countries. Enriched by the translations and efforts of young researchers, the volume aspires to serve as a significant reference point in the field of comparative criminal law.
