Abstract

<jats:p>The purpose of the article “Photocollages of the magazine 'Kino' (1925): specifics and results of perception” is to find out the specifics of photocollages of films in the Ukrainian magazine “Kino” for 1925, the results of their perception by 33 Ukrainian respondents-students of higher education majoring in “Journalism”. Research methods and methodology. To achieve the set goal, the following methods were employed: descriptive method, analytical method, synthetic method, statistical method, and interpretive method. The article analyses the specifics of photocollages found in the magazine “Kino” for 1925, the results of a survey of 33 students of higher education majoring in “Journalism” regarding the characteristics of the respondents’ perception of the above-mentioned media products. Research results. The article highlights the results of a survey of 33 Ukrainian respondents - future journalists, who, answering questions, verbalized the specifics of the perception of photo collages of a century ago, which were one of the means of transmitting information - the main element of communication with the audience, based on the survey results, recommendations were formulated for publishers, designers, journalists for the creation of print media and online media. Conclusions. During the analysis of photo collages, such specifics of their design were found as the use of diagonal placement of words, font contrast, contrast in color and size, silhouette photographs, their non-standard placement together with font elements, the image of a large bobbin, geometric figures, in particular a circle, which, taking into account the context of placement, can expand the boundaries of interpretation of the images used. When formulating recommendations for publishers, designers, and journalists for creating print and online media, emphasis was placed on the need to avoid multiple elements in film photo collages and the use of images and words with negative connotations.</jats:p>
