Abstract

Domestic refrigerators mostly work on vapor compression refrigeration cycle, which have four basic components that are compressor, condenser, expansion valve and evaporator. In domestic standalone refrigerator, compressor and condenser are part of cabinet casing of refrigerator and are inside the building. These add the heat to the room, since its hot operating parts are inside room, noise of both compressor and condenser transmitted in the room and less amount of surrounding air contacts with the condenser and compressor. All these factors cause increase in the compressor work or reduce COP of the refrigeration system. These problems can be avoided in split- refrigeration system which is similar to split-air conditioning. In the present work split-refrigeration system in which, the compressor and condenser are combined as a single condensing unit mounted outdoors, the evaporator and expansion valve mounted inside the building is fabricated and tested. Results showed that in comparison to domestic standalone refrigerator with spit-refrigerator has improvement in COP and energy consumption reduced with no load and load performances. Apart from this it is observed that noise levels are reduced.
