Abstract
<jats:p>The subject of the paper is the analysis of the development of sociology as an academic discipline at the Faculty of Philosophy in Niš. The institutional development of teaching and scientific research activities, as well as the theoretical and scientificresearch orientation of the Niš School of Sociology is presented in the paper. The founding and development of sociology in Niš is seen as a part of the development of sociology in Serbia (and Yugoslavia) pointing to the social and cultural factors that influenced it.</jats:p>
