Abstract
The incorporation of organic materials in agriculture are management practices carried out by producers to reduce or make more efficient the use of inorganic fertilizers in production systems. Organic amendments (OA) are used to improve the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of the soil, provide essential nutrients to plants, improve the quality of crops and in specific cases mitigate stress. There are different OAs, the most used being humic substances, fermented liquid fertilizers, compost, and vermicompost, which have the potential to improve crop development. There is a regulation that contemplates different types of OA, which is based on the type of raw material used for its production, where minimum contents of total organic matter (OM) are required. By having the capacity to improve the characteristics of the soil and improve the quality of the harvested products, EOs, and that their use continues to be practiced, will influence the decrease in the use of synthetic chemicals, thus favoring sustainable agriculture. The objective of this review work is to present the main applications of OA in agriculture and the scope that may be achieved in the future.
