Abstract
The monograph Migration on Twitter (X): Communication Relations in the Hybrid Media Sphere is situated within media and migration studies, with a focus on migration in the media, and analyses how communication relations on Twitter were shaped during the period of the migrant “crisis” of 2015–2016 in Slovenia. Theoretically, it is grounded in the model of the hybrid media system, complemented by agenda-setting theory and network theory. It also incorporates a critical perspective on media studies, which enables the simultaneous examination of user activities and the structural affordances of the platform (e.g., brevity of posts, the possibility of retweeting, message virality, and user anonymity). Methodologically, it adopts a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative (social network analysis) and qualitative (critical discourse analysis of posts) methods.
