Abstract
Promoting positive conceptions of disability requires culturally sensitive strategies that resonate with local traditions and values. This paper proposes locally adaptable methods such as community-based rehabilitation (CBR), cultural festivals, folktales, inclusive sports, and indigenous knowledge to promote inclusion and combat negative stereotypes. These culturally appropriate practices seek to utilize local traditions for improved acceptance and empowerment of individuals with disabilities. Incorporating disability awareness into community-focused initiatives, traditional storytelling, and festivals can transform societal views by highlighting resilience and contributions. Peer support groups and mentorship initiatives can foster a sense of belonging. Aligning these strategies with daily life and cultural norms encourages disability inclusion as a core aspect of community identity, transforming societal attitudes and reducing stigma.
