Abstract
<jats:p>This chapter examines how consumption practices embedded in digital ecosystems reshape consumer behavior and long-term life satisfaction. Drawing on the classical Diderot Effect, the chapter introduces the concept of the Digital Diderot Effect to explain how ecosystem dependence, algorithmic recommendation systems, and platform design intensify cascading consumption cycles in digital markets. The chapter conceptualizes digital ecosystems as structures that actively guide consumption through technical lock-in, economic dependency, and psychological habituation, transforming isolated purchase decisions into continuous consumption processes. It further discusses how these dynamics contribute to hedonic adaptation, decision fatigue, and diminished psychological autonomy, despite short-term gains in convenience and satisfaction. The chapter reframes digital consumption as a multi-criteria decision-making problem and proposes a normative evaluation framework integrating technical compatibility, cognitive load, financial sustainability, autonomy, and life satisfaction.</jats:p>
