Abstract

<jats:p>Alpine vegetation in the Alps represents a highly sensitive ecological system influenced by altitude, climatic variability, and complex topography. This chapter examines modern approaches to alpine vegetation mapping using advanced remote sensing and geospatial techniques. High-resolution satellite imagery, hyperspectral sensors, LiDAR, and UAV-based surveys, integrated with GIS and digital elevation models, enable detailed assessment of vegetation patterns with high spatial and thematic accuracy. Object-based image analysis and machine-learning algorithms improve vegetation classification and allow monitoring of temporal changes in response to environmental drivers. Phenological shifts and habitat transformations are identified through time-series data and field validation, providing critical insights into biodiversity distribution and ecosystem resilience. The chapter highlights the importance of advanced mapping technologies for conservation planning, climate change adaptation, and sustainable land-use management in vulnerable alpine environments worldwide.</jats:p>
