Abstract

This chapter examines the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) bots in pre-service teacher education through the lens of the Multiliteracies framework. It explores how AI-driven conversational agents reshape literacy practices by fostering multimodal communication, collaborative writing, and creative meaning-making. Drawing on a study conducted with pre-service Primary education teachers, the chapter analyses students' familiarity with AI tools and their engagement in designing educational bots for teaching and learning purposes. Findings indicate limited prior knowledge of bots but strong recognition of their pedagogical value after an integrated hands-on experience. The chapter argues that AI bots function not only as instructional tools but also as creative partners that enhance personalization, critical engagement, and multimodal literacy development, highlighting the need for their systematic inclusion in teacher training programs.
