Abstract
Teacher education plays an important role in shaping cultural and technological transformation. As classrooms become more diverse and digital tools influence instruction, teachers need competences that go beyond traditional expectations. Intercultural Communicative Competence (ICC) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) have therefore become key areas of teacher preparation, yet both remain only partly integrated into pre-service and in-service programs. This chapter examines how teacher education can more effectively embed ICC and AI across the continuum of teacher learning. It outlines the historical development of teacher training, highlights cultural and technological priorities, and discusses how globalization, digitalization, and evolving pedagogies require a reframing of teacher competences. It further explores how ICC and AI can support each other and presents practical models for implementation. The chapter ultimately proposes a coherent, future-oriented framework for integrating ICC and AI in ethical, sustainable, and meaningful ways.
