<jats:p>This chapter explores the critical role of custody services in policing, highlighting their influence on police legitimacy, public trust, and detainee welfare. It examines how outstanding custody practices - aligned with the PEEL assessment framework - can enhance operational efficiency, transparency, and ethical standards. Key components such as staff training, safeguarding, facility management, and technology integration are discussed alongside best practices from UK police forces. The chapter also addresses recurring challenges, such as disproportionate use of force and inadequate healthcare, offering forward-looking recommendations to support continuous improvement and excellence in custody service delivery.</jats:p>
