Abstract
Respiratory diseases, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and bronchitis, affect millions worldwide and often require timely intervention to prevent acute exacerbations. Inhalers remain the primary treatment for symptom management, but poor adherence, incorrect usage, and delayed administration frequently reduce their effectiveness, leading to uncontrolled symptoms and hospitalizations. Integrating Internet of Things (IoT) technologies into respiratory care offers a novel solution by enabling real-time monitoring of environmental and physiological conditions. Smart inhalers, wearable devices, and environmental sensors can track inhaler usage, vital signs, air quality, temperature, and humidity, providing comprehensive data on patients' health and surroundings. IoT-based inhaler alert systems leverage these data streams to deliver personalized, context-aware notifications that guide patients in carrying and using their inhalers appropriately, improving adherence and preventing exacerbations.
