Abstract

Genome size in plants can vary among different species and within the same species. Different ploidy can occur even in the cells of the same plant (mixoploidy). Different chromosomal races are an important factor in speciation of plants. They are present in 51% of species of aquatic vascular plants in northeast Asia. Mixoploidy of varying frequency was noted in 6 species of Ranunculaceae.
