Abstract

This review examines V. Bozhinov’s novella “Sinking” (Riva, Sofia, 2024) as a concise philo-sophical and psychological narrative set in a Greek seaside resort, where leisure gradually transforms into an introspective journey. Through the perspective of a writer-observer, the story unfolds as a meditation on guilt, temptation, and the fragile balance between inertia and awakening. The sea becomes a metaphor for spiritual depth and disappearance, while Bozhi-nov’s restrained style and elliptical narration create tension between speech and silence. Echo-ing modernist and existential traditions, “Sinking” explores the boundary between life and the abyss, suggesting art as a final form of emergence.
