Abstract

The article examines folkloric and mythological creatures interpreted in two novels – “Moon Flower” by Kathryn Di and “Stolen. Doomed. Protected” by Iskra Urumova. Central to both novels is the image of the Samodiva. Kathryn Di’s novel includes many Slavic and some Bulgarian mythological creatures such as Dragon, Ovinnik, Vampire, etc. Folk songs in which the images of the Samodiva and the Dragon are central are commented on. In these songs can be found elements of these creatures, interpreted by the two writers. Samodivas are the creatures that are (almost) always present in contemporary Bulgarian novels that develop folklore motifs.
