Abstract

<jats:p>The article examines the remains of birch bark and horn linings with bronze studs for attachment to a wooden base from burial 4 mound 13 of site Kamen-2 (Kamensky district, Altai Territory). This monument was studied in 1974-1976 by V. A. Mogilnikov, A. P. Umansky and V. A. Kuibyshev by expeditions of the Institute of Archeology of the USSR Academy of Sciences and Barnaul State University. Despite the long-standing research, their results have not yet been fully introduced into scientific circulation. The proposed paper describes the methodology of working with fragmented birch bark archaeological artifacts and publishes the experience of such work. The main research methods involved in the work are descriptive, restoration and reconstruction, metallographic and comparative analysis. Metallographic analysis carried out by A. A. Tishkin and S. V. Khavrin showed that the nails of the horn linings are made of copper, and the oxides on the birch bark contain copper salts and corrosion products of products with an admixture of arsenic, lead and iron...</jats:p>
