Abstract
<jats:p>The traditional type of obstetric care began to change actively during the Soviet period, which implemented a new policy for the protection of women’s reproductive health. The purpose of the study is to consider the process of development of the system of state obstetric institutions in the 1918-1950s and to trace their impact on the change in traditional practices. With the advent of Soviet power, legislative initiatives were developed, the foundations of an inpatient network of obstetric care were developed. In the village, the implementation of the new policy was slower, which had an impact on the duration of the preservation of the traditional type along with inpatient obstetrics.</jats:p>
