Abstract

The terahertz band, joint communication and sensing systems (JCAS), radio vision systems, and reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) are among the key candidate technologies for sixth-generation (6G) communication systems. This book examines the fundamentals of designing systems for the shared use of the terahertz spectrum by communication systems and radar/sensing JCAS and radio vision systems, including regulatory aspects. The main hardware components of terahertz radio communication systems, such as antennas and transceiver modules, are presented. The book also reports research results on the development of transceiver module elements for FMCW-type radars based on metamaterials in the terahertz range, methods for generating electromagnetic oscillations in the terahertz frequency band using open resonators, and the application of adaptive signal-processing algorithms in terahertz systems. A system-level analysis of the current state, physical principles, and technical solutions in the field of terahertz radio vision is provided. The operating principles of the scanner and the prospects for applying convolutional neural networks to the processing of images acquired in the THz range are highlighted, opening the way to automated object recognition
