Abstract

Background. The clinical picture of acute peritonitis in HIV-infected patients has its own specific features, is atypical, asymptomatic, and masked by opportunistic and concomitant diseases. Therefore, it is very important for surgeons to have tools in their arsenal to help diagnose this pathology in a cohort of patients with HIV infection. Main Contents. The article analyzes domestic and foreign sources in the scientific electronic library eLIBRARY.RU and in the electronic databases PubMed, Medline and Scopus on the use of inflammatory markers in acute peritonitis in people living with HIV. The analysis demonstrates the great potential of some markers of inflammation as predictors of acute peritonitis in the general population, however, questions about the effectiveness of these biomarkers in this nosology in HIV-infected patients remain somewhat unclear. The ultimate goal of the review is to identify the existing lack of knowledge in the use of inflammatory markers (C-reactive protein, procalcitonin, and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio) as laboratory predictors of acute peritonitis in patients with HIV infection. Conclusions. This review will open up opportunities for the development of future studies to improve the effectiveness of diagnosis of a given pathology.
