Abstract

Since 2023, in the Kava-Chyolomdzha subdistrict of the Magadansky Nature Reserve the species diversity of the small mammal community inhabiting the floodplain biotopes of the Chyolomdzha River has been studied. The composition of the community under analysis is primarily based on the most abundant and background species in Northern Priokhotye (Insectivora, Lagomorpha, and Rodents). Changes in the diversity and in the dominance structure of the community occur in course of the population dynamics of its constituent species. In the years of the dominant species abundance decline, species diversity increases (H = 1.23), while in peak years, it decreases (H = 0.87).
