Abstract
The conference was developed within the framework of Task 5.3 “EULiST Beyond Europe,” aimed at expanding the Alliance’s global reach and fostering partnerships beyond geographical boundaries. More than 216 participants from 31 countries took part in plenary sessions, panels, and thematic discussions, creating a space for both specialized dialogue and interdisciplinary collaboration. Thematic sessions reflected the breadth of the conference. Discussions on research highlighted the role of scientific inquiry and open collaboration in advancing climate-related solutions, while sessions involving industrial partners emphasized their contribution to sustainable innovation, including clean energy, responsible digitalization, and circular economy models. Urban resilience and climate neutrality emerged as key areas of focus, with participants sharing best practices and forward-looking strategies for sustainable cities. In parallel, conversations on information and society explored the evolving relationship between data, communication, and civic engagement. Special attention was given to doctoral students and early-career researchers through a pre-conference session held on 19 November. This initiative provided opportunities for networking, knowledge exchange, and project development, reinforcing the Alliance’s commitment to nurturing emerging talent. The session received 65 abstracts, selected 20 pitches, and generated two potential project ideas. Overall, the conference exceeded expectations in terms of participation, quality of dialogue, and tangible outcomes. It strengthened the Alliance’s international dimension, deepened its commitment to sustainability, and reinforced its role as a platform for multidisciplinary collaboration. Participants left with a renewed sense of purpose and a shared vision for future cooperation. Looking ahead, the next EULiST Global Conference will take place in 2027 at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). Building on the success of this first edition, it is expected to further expand collaboration and foster new initiatives across continents.
