Abstract

<jats:p>This article sheds light on the legislative and ethical dimensions of the woman’s right to kind and respectful treatment (maʿrūf) in Islam, considering it a central right within the structure of the marital relationship and one of the most significant manifestations of Islam's honoring of women within the family sphere. The study explores relevant Qur'anic verses and Prophetic traditions that establish this right, alongside scholarly interpretations regarding its content, limitations, and mechanisms of implementation. It also addresses the ethical dimension of this right by highlighting the values and higher objectives that govern marital life in Islam, such as mercy, affection, justice, and benevolence. The article demonstrates that living together with maʿrūf entails good treatment, pleasant companionship, and consideration of the woman’s emotional, psychological, and social particularities. It further discusses the positive impacts of fulfilling this right on building a stable and peaceful family life.</jats:p>
