Abstract

<jats:p>The article discusses the theoretical foundations and methodological approaches to teaching ecology in the system of public and professional education. Based on the analysis of domestic and foreign studies, key principles of formation of environmental worldview, development of systemic thinking and practical skills in environmental activities are revealed. Particular attention is paid to the integration of interdisciplinary relations, the use of design and research methods, as well as the application of digital technologies (virtual laboratories, geoinformation systems) for the visualization of environmental processes. Presented are the results of an empirical study conducted in schools and universities of Kyrgyzstan, which show positive dynamics in the level of environmental literacy of students when introducing the proposed methodology. Recommendations are based on the improvement of educational programs, improvement of the qualifications of teachers and creation of educational‐methodical complexes oriented to the formation of sustainable behavior in the changing climate.</jats:p>
